The Art Fair Where Masterpieces Meet

Background

Founded in 1988, The European Fine Art Foundation (TEFAF) is universally recognised as the world’s leading authority on fine art, antiques and design. Each year, TEFAF presents two fairs - TEFAF Maastricht, spanning 7,000 years of art history and TEFAF New York, dedicated to modern and contemporary art and design - and underwrites the TEFAF Museum Restoration Fund, which grants vital support for the conservation of global cultural heritage.

Programme

The Challenge

  • Global Reputation Management: Safeguarding TEFAF’s position as the benchmark for excellence in the art world.
  • Media Engagement: Securing consistent, top-tier coverage in an increasingly crowded cultural calendar.
  • Strategic Messaging: Aligning the Foundation’s growing portfolio of initiatives with its core mission.

Our Solution

Over two decades - first through Golden Squared Consulting, and since 2021 as part of Cultural Comms - we’ve delivered a fully integrated marketing and PR programme that includes:

  • Agency Leadership: Directing a cohesive network of eight specialist agencies across Europe and the U.S.
  • Targeted Media Relations: Cultivating relationships with leading art-world journalists and commentators to secure exclusive features and thought-leadership opportunities.
  • Executive Profiling: Positioning TEFAF’s leadership on global speaking circuits and in high-impact editorial.
  • Board-Level Advisory: Shaping strategic messaging and long-term brand positioning.
  • On-Site Press Management: Running a multilingual international press office during each fair.
  • Global Press Trips: Coordinating logistics and press programmes for 100+ international journalists each year.

Results

  • 1,000+ annual articles across 12+ markets, including in the Financial Times, New York Times and major European broadsheets.
  • 500+ media visits to TEFAF Maastricht each year, ensuring on-the-ground, real-time coverage.
  • 400+ curators and museum patrons attending annually, reinforcing the fair’s status as a must-see event.
  • Launch of new initiatives such as the Curators Course and “Secret” Emerging New Collectors Programme, each driving fresh audiences and press interest.
  • Year-on-year visitor growth, owing to sustained awareness campaigns and high-profile media partnerships.
